MCG and Glartek Advance AI-Powered Shop Floor Digitalization Through Hi-rEV Project

Lisbon, Portugal — 6 July, 2026 — Glartek, a leading provider of AI-native EHSQ software, and MCG, one of Portugal's leading automotive component manufacturers, today announced a collaboration to introduce Glartek's AI-powered virtual assistant, GIL (Glartek Intelligent Layer), into MCG's shop floor operations.

By consolidating technical manuals, repair procedures, and factory information into a single conversational interface, available on smartphones and tablets, GIL effectively democratizes expertise across the workforce — turning decades of accumulated know-how into guidance any operator can access instantly, and supporting the safer execution of complex tasks.

Instead of searching through binders or waiting for a supervisor when something goes wrong, operators can simply ask GIL, using text or voice, and get an immediate, guided answer drawn from the factory's own technical documentation and operational data. For instance, if an operator detects a non-conformity, they can interact with GIL, so it suggests different courses of action to resolve the issue.

The companies expect the solution to deliver significant operational benefits, including a reduction in Mean Time to Repair (MTTR) and ensure critical knowledge remains available across generations of workers, reducing dependency on individual expertise and strengthening organizational resilience.

Before the project, troubleshooting often relied on informal communication channels, including phone calls and paper-based reports. This dispersion of information increased the complexity of diagnostics, slowed response times, and made it difficult to preserve valuable technical know-how.

"AI has the potential to fundamentally change the way industrial organizations capture and share knowledge. With GIL, we are enabling frontline teams to access expertise instantly, improving productivity while reinforcing safety and operational excellence," said Luís Murcho, COO of Glartek.

GIL is part of Glartek's wider EHSQ digital platform, which helps industrial organizations digitalize and connect their frontline operations across safety, quality, maintenance, and production.

Developed within the framework of the Hi-rEV Agenda and co-funded by the PRR (Plano de Recuperação e Resiliência), the project highlights how collaboration between manufacturing leaders and technology companies can accelerate the adoption of AI-driven solutions and contribute to the digital transformation of the industrial ecosystem.
