Glartek starts a new R&D project with INEGI: The Institute of Science and Innovation in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering
Glartek, a leading Augmented Reality (AR) focused company, has started one more R&D project called GRS: Glartek Retrofit Sensors. The GRS project aims to develop new and valuable solutions for the Industry. This time, the project is co-partnered with a reference of engineering science and innovation – INEGI.
Once again, Glartek has been involved in an R & D project to provide its technological know-how and a valuable contribution to Industry 4.0. The GRS project aims to provide new insights on two main areas, the development and implementation of an IIoT platform adapted to the reality of customers, and the development of intelligent sensors for the predictive monitoring/maintenance of industrial equipment.
The project is co-partnered with INEGI: The Institute of Science and Innovation in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. Both companies can bring their specialty to the table: (1) Glartek: software, and (2) INEGI: hardware. To bring a complete solution to extract data from intelligent sensors and centralize it in an IIoT platform for visualization.
The two actors involved in the project will have their role, as briefly described below:
As a technological partner, and with a high maturity level and know-how regarding IT technologies, INEGI is responsible for the hardware development for the project. The sensors developed by the company will be focused on deploying new insights for monitoring and predictive maintenance of shop-floor machinery.
The institute will develop 2 different sensors with different end-goals.
- Sensor 1: Monitors engine status without external power supply
- Sensor 2: A camera that reads and extracts manometer information.
Glartek is responsible for the software development of the project. It will provide a Digital Platform to visually display the data extracted from the sensors. The IIoT platform provided by Glartek will include data presented in different dashboards, reports, and also an alarmistic system to ensure that if the equipment is not adequate to the patterns, the team is immediately notified in the platform, and actions can immediately be taken.
With this project, both companies wish to provide the industry with an integrated solution that optimizes industrial processes with the support of sensors technology. This solution supported by intelligent sensors will be the first one in the country applied to the industry.
“These R&D initiatives are a huge boost for our company and our target market since they allow us to continuously provide cutting edge features, acquire new knowledge and grow both credibility and experience as a startup” Gonçalo Santos, CTO at Glartek.
This work is being developed within the scope of the GRS project: Glartek Retrofit Sensors, a co-promotion between Glartek and INEGI. The project is co-financed under Portugal 2020 and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
